We are currently listed on Macromedia.com. We have also secured pittmfug.com and pittmfug.org for the users group. We will eventually be moving to those domains and will let you all know when that is about to happen or has happened. Hosting and domain name registration is courtesy of BBF Solutions. They generously donated the hosting and registration for the group. If you know them thank them. And if you need hosting or IT services – now you know where to go. Thanks BBF.
People have been contacting me asking about how many people are coming. My tally is around 12 at this point. If you guys are pretty sure you are coming maybe shoot me an email so I can answer that question more intelligently.
Thanks,
-Ben Pritchard
Hey everyone! We have decided on a date so mark it down on your calendar and be there. November 18th at 6:00pm at New Perspective (directions again).
We have had some requests for a users email list for the User Group. We are now in the process of putting this together. Originally, we were shying away from the idea of the list. Since the site is a blog and has a feed we thought that people that use RSS readers or Live Bookmarks in Firefox, etc would be able to get updates easily without us having to send mass emails every time we wanted to tell you all something. Blogger uses atom feeds but a RSS Feed is here.
What we ARE interested in is being able to chat with you guys during the day. I already talk to some other Flashers during the day talking about things we are trying to work through that are giving us problems. Currently we use Google Talk for that though we also run other IM clients as well. If you are interested in being part of the PittMFUG IM List then you can just request to be added to Wayne’s or my list. The emails for that are: wlinkin at gmail.com and sgtpritchard at gmail.com (spelled out here to keep bots from spamming us).
At the meeting we will probably collect some info such as Name, Place of Employment, Title, Email, etc. Just so we can keep in touch with you. That way if we NEED to send an email out we can.
Hope to see you all there – we have had some very encouraging response so far. Remember to tell your pals. Thanks!

Welcome to the one, the only and newly formed Pittsburgh Macromedia Flash Users Group (PittMFUG). We recently formed the users group and obtained official approval as Pittsburgh’s only official Macromedia Flash Users Group.
PittMFUG is managed by Wayne Lincoln and me, Ben Pritchard. We will be starting meetings in the month of November. We will have at least eight meetings per year. Initially meetings will be held at New Perspective in the Strip District. If you need directions click here.
So who would come to a Flash Users Group meeting and what exactly is going to happen there? If you love Flash and don’t glaze over when you hear talking about ActionScript, new features and web technology in general then the PittMFUG may be for you. A typical meeting will consist of talking about the industry events that have happened lately with a strong focus on Macromedia Flash. The first meeting may be more of a “get to know fellow Flashers in Pittsburgh” than anything. We probably will try to hit on ActionScript 3, Flash Player 8.5 and Flex Builder 2 though given the huge amount of new information. We want to see how many of you show up and what exactly you are interested in having in your user group.
As the group grows you will be tied into the latest happenings within Macromedia. There will occasionally be give-aways and contests to keep you all on your feet. The first meeting will be bring your own food and drink. Once we nail down our “regulars” we can start talking about how we want to manage snacks, etc.
If you plan on attending the first meeting at the end of November (date will be announced here) let us know. Just post a comment on this thread and we will be able to tell how many people are interested in growing the user group.
Wayne and I both hope that the group can help the Flashers of Pittsburgh grow and cause everyone to sit up and take notice. In the meantime remember to bookmark this site as it will be our primary vehicle for announcements and all things Flash. I will try to mirror Flash related entries from my blog, Pixelfumes, on this site so that it becomes somewhat of an aggregator and less of a “just for announcements” page.
If you Flash or know someone who does – TELL ‘EM to check out this site and show up at the meetings!
Thanks everyone!
